Tony Murrell

Much loved presenter and Programme Manager at MPOWERFM, Tony Murrell, will be joining forces for Portia Adams and comedian, Maanda for the MPOWERFM Breakfast show.

Tony is well known as the much loved presenter on "ABC - The Hot FM" but later worked for Radio Luxembourg. Other radio stations he worked for include GWR in Bristol and Touch Radio 102. The African wilderness must have seen very appealing for the Brit as he made his way to dark Africa and in specific South Africa. Here Tony has worked with various national radio and television channels like Capital Radio and 5FM until MPOWERFM scooped him up.

Outside the studio, Tony is a jeans and t shirt type of guy who despite his height, has no shortage of talent or dedication to what he does best! He likes watching movies and also people, saying we really do some strange things sometimes. His favourite movies are Midnight Cowboy, Scarface and any Woody Allen movie. As for TV shows, he prefers Brothers and Sisters and any British comedy show. So what likes and dislikes would someone like Tony have? According to him he likes any type of music, eating out and especially seafood, watching cricket and reading autobiographies. He dislikes dishonest people who talk about money the whole time and lying is another pet hate of his.

To summarise Tony has the markings of a very charming, witty and of course, good looking person. The ideal qualities for someone to head the Breakfast show on MPOWERFM.

Starting out, Tony recalls the worst job he ever had to do was to sell washing machines and other electrical appliances. These days his mission is to enjoy every day and stay positive even when things are not going according to plan.

Still a Brit at heart, Tony would like to chat with the Queen, Lady Gaga and of course, Nelson Mandela. If Tony could pick any actress to play his character in his autobiography, it would most definitely be Danny Devino. Why? “Because he is just the right height,” Tony says.

Back in the studio, Tony tells that his most embarrassing moment was when one day he went to the bathroom and when he returned to the studio he found the cleaner had decided to unplug the computer to use her hoover. “We went off air for 30 minutes,” Tony says.

One last question. What is Tony's hidden talent that he has never mentioned on air? “I can play the spoons.” So whether you like to play the spoons or watching passers-by like Tony, be sure not to miss him weekdays for the Breakfast show only on MPOWERFM.
