Orphans support Ford Pumas at Mbombela Stadium
About 35 orphaned children became Ford Puma supporters for life. Over the weekend from 16 – 18 March 2012, various sponsors joined hands to bring the Loerie Children’s Home from Bronkhorstspruit to Nelspruit to watch the mighty Ford Pumas take on the Blue Bulls at Mbombela Stadium.
Arriving in Nelspruit on a Pro Tour bus, the children aged between 6 to 18 were taken on educational tours through the MPOWERFM studio and Lowveld Media printers to get a look as to what goes on behind the scenes.
The Ford Pumas surprised the children upon arriving at the Grove Shopping Centre to hand out signatures to supporting fans. The children really had a luxurious stay over the weekend as they were accommodated by Stay Easy in Nelspruit and had meals provided by Nando’s Detroit Spur and Wimpy. Every child’s dream comes true!
Not even a little rain could put a halt to the children’s fun and exciting weekend. Even though it rained Friday afternoon, the children still enjoyed the jumping castle provided by Mad Hatters Events. The fun and games continued on Saturday morning at the Magic Company and Nu Metro cinemas.
The best part of the weekend was still to come. The orphans were given the opportunity to form the Guard of Honour tunnel for the Ford Pumas as they emerged onto the rugby field. Having the childrens’hopes and dreams in their hands, the Ford Pumas drew 19-19 with the Blue Bulls and make all their supporters proud to wear their Puma jerseys. All through the game, the children were sitting on the edge of their seats, wishing only the best for their beloved team.
The weekend ended on a high note as the children paid a visit to Chimp Eden. The apes proved to be a very interesting subject as the children wanted to know everything about them and kept the guides busy for an hour with tons of questions.
Exhausted but astounded by the weekend’s activities, the children departed on Sunday for Bronkhorstspruit. Even organizer of the event, MPOWERFM’s Jane de Jager, said it was truly heartwarming to have so many businesses in the Lowveld as well as national companies participate in making this a memorable event. She further pledge support for the future MPOWERFM PAUSE ENGAGED FORD PUMAS INITIATIVES. MpowerFM and the Ford Pumas, have decided to pause and engage with the charities in our province. You can get involved by nominating a charity to watch the next Ford Pumas game and we will make the children of your nominated charity experience an unforgeatble day. MPowerFM Open Mic Series
MPowerFM Open Mic Series - an initiative between MPowerFM and the CMDA to develop and provide exposure to unsigned musicians within Mpumalanga.
Apply to perform at the MPowerFM Open Mic Series by submitting your demo track via email (max 2MB), post or by hand as detailed below. Every month, eight acts will be invited to perform a 15 minute set each at the Open Mic evening hosted by the Performing Arts Centre based at the Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre in White River, Mpumalanga. Each performance will be uploaded to the MPowerFM website where our listeners can vote for their favourite performances. The top four most liked acts will then be featured on our new Friday night show with Mike Savage and Dave Walters. This will culminate in a live concert held every three months for the top four acts from the preceding three Open Mic events and will again be based on votes received from our listeners.
